ASEAN is comprised of 10 countries in Southeast Asia. They are very diverse from ultramodern Singapore to semi-closed Laos; with Indonesia the giant, a G20 economy with half of the whole regions’ population.
Understanding the challenges to harmonise IP across the region, the ASEAN Economic Community’s second IPR Action Plan began in 2016. The plan aims to harmonise IP through dozens of IP projects under 19 headline initiatives. Some are highly technical like developing IP financing capabilities around the region, others more general, like creating an IP enforcement case statistics database to complement the ASEAN IP portal.
